SIC Score (Sepsis-Induced Coagulopathy)

Identifies sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC) as an early phase of DIC. Identifies patients who may benefit from anticoagulation.

Score interpretation

SIC Absent 0–3

Does not meet SIC criteria

→ Monitor; recheck coagulation if clinical deterioration

SIC Present 4–6

Meets SIC criteria — high risk of progression to overt DIC

→ Consider anticoagulation (LMWH/UFH per local protocol); treat underlying sepsis aggressively

Interpretation bands for the SIC Score. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
