Neer Classification (Proximal Humerus Fracture)
Classifies proximal humerus fractures by number of displaced parts. Guides conservative vs surgical management.
Score interpretation
Neer 1-part (minimal displacement)
→ Conservative: sling for 3-6 weeks; physiotherapy; good outcome expected
Neer 2-part fracture
→ ORIF or conservative depending on type; surgical neck fractures may need fixation
Neer 3-4 part fracture
→ ORIF or hemiarthroplasty; high AVN risk with 4-part; reverse shoulder arthroplasty in elderly
Interpretation bands for the Neer Classification. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
