VIDA Score (Vitiligo Disease Activity)
Assesses disease activity in vitiligo using the Vitiligo Disease Activity (VIDA) score. Guides treatment selection (immunosuppression vs phototherapy vs surgical).
Score interpretation
→ Surgical treatment options eligible (melanocyte transplant, blister grafting); phototherapy maintenance; sun protection; psychological support
→ Topical calcineurin inhibitors (tacrolimus) or low-potency topical steroids; narrowband UVB phototherapy; avoid surgery until stable; monitor progress
→ Oral mini-pulse corticosteroids for rapidly progressive disease (Adults: dexamethasone 2.5mg on 2 consecutive days per week x 3-6 months. Children: use a children's formulary.); NB-UVB; consider ruxolitinib 1.5% cream for non-segmental vitiligo with facial involvement when first-line topical treatment has not worked (NICE TA1140, age 12 and over); dermatology referral
