G8 Geriatric Screening Tool (Oncology)
8-item screening tool for older adults with cancer (Bellera 2012; SIOG endorsed). Score ≤14/17 indicates need for full comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) before treatment decisions.
Score interpretation
Screen positive — abnormal 0–14
→ Refer for full comprehensive geriatric assessment before deciding cancer treatment (SIOG 2018; ASCO 2018). CGA shown to alter treatment decisions in ~30%; reduces toxicity and improves QoL.
Screen normal 14.5–17
→ Standard oncology pathway. Usual treatment intensity. Re-screen if clinical change.
Interpretation bands for the G8. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
