Assesses severity of chronic liver disease and predicts surgical mortality and prognosis. Classifies into Child-Pugh A, B, or C.

Child-Pugh A (Well-compensated)

→ 1-year survival 100%; 2-year 85%; suitable for most procedures

Child-Pugh B (Significant dysfunction)

→ 1-year survival 81%; 2-year 57%; caution with procedures; optimise management

Child-Pugh C (Decompensated)

→ 1-year survival 45%; 2-year 35%; transplant evaluation; palliative care discussion
