Recognise + Stage
Chronic inflammatory disease of apocrine-bearing skin: axillae, groin, perianal, perineal, inframammary, buttocks. Recurrent painful nodules + abscesses + fistulae + scarring.
Hurley staging:
• I: single / multiple abscesses; no scarring or sinus tracts.
• II: recurrent abscesses + scarring + sinus tracts; widely separated lesions.
• III: diffuse / multiple interconnected sinus tracts + abscesses across entire area; severe scarring.
Associations: obesity, smoking, metabolic syndrome, IBD, PCOS, depression, suicide risk.
