Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS)

Predicts overall survival in cancer patients based on C-reactive protein and albumin levels. A simple inflammatory-nutritional marker of cancer prognosis.

Score interpretation

GPS 0 — Good Prognosis 0

Favourable inflammatory-nutritional status. Median survival varies by cancer type but favourable.

→ Optimise treatment; maintain nutritional support

GPS 1 — Intermediate Prognosis 1

Intermediate inflammatory-nutritional status

→ Nutritional intervention; consider impact on treatment decisions

GPS 2 — Poor Prognosis 2

Systemic inflammatory response with hypoalbuminaemia. Associated with significantly worse survival.

→ Palliative care discussion; aggressive nutritional and anti-inflammatory support
