Modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS)

Modified version of GPS that only scores high CRP (>10 mg/L) with hypoalbuminaemia (<35 g/L) together as the worst prognostic category. Used widely in surgical oncology.

Score interpretation

mGPS 0 0

No systemic inflammation. Best prognosis category.

→ Standard oncological management

mGPS 1 1

Elevated CRP without hypoalbuminaemia. Intermediate prognosis.

→ Monitor nutritional status; optimise pre-operative nutrition if surgical candidate

mGPS 2 2

Elevated CRP with hypoalbuminaemia. Worst prognosis. Associated with reduced survival and treatment tolerance.

→ Early palliative care referral; nutritional supplementation; consider fitness for aggressive treatment

Interpretation bands for the mGPS. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
