NIV Failure Predictor Score
Predicts likelihood of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) failure in acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) and COPD exacerbations.
Score interpretation
Low risk of NIV failure
→ Continue NIV; reassess ABG at 2-4 hours
Moderate risk of NIV failure
→ Close monitoring; have intubation team on standby
High risk of NIV failure
→ Consider early intubation; intensivist review
