ASIA Impairment Scale (Spinal Cord Injury)
Classifies completeness of spinal cord injury (SCI) using the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Impairment Scale (AIS).
Score interpretation
AIS A — Complete SCI
→ No sensory or motor function in S4-S5; intensive rehab planning
AIS B — Sensory incomplete
→ Sensory but no motor function below NLI; optimise neuroprotection
AIS C — Motor incomplete
→ Motor function below NLI, >50% key muscles grade <3
AIS D — Motor incomplete
→ Motor function below NLI, >=50% key muscles grade >=3
AIS E — Normal function
→ Sensation and motor normal; may still have SCI history
