ClinCalc Pro is rebuilding its dose data from primary open sources — the manufacturer SmPC (eMC), the WHO Model Formulary and other official references — under clinician review. This drug's structured dose is not yet published here. Confirm all doses against the product SmPC and your local formulary before prescribing.
Clinical monograph
How it works
It contains inactivated tick-borne encephalitis virus that stimulates the production of protective neutralising antibodies without causing infection.
Prescribing in practice
- It is contraindicated in those with a confirmed severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or to a vaccine component, including egg in egg-allergic individuals as relevant.
- A multi-dose primary course is needed for reliable protection, so timing should allow completion before travel.
- Vaccination complements but does not replace personal measures to avoid tick bites in endemic regions.
Monitoring
Observe for immediate hypersensitivity after each dose and ensure the primary course and boosters are completed for continued protection.
Counselling the patient
- Continue to use insect repellent, cover up and check for ticks in affected areas.
- You need the full course of injections for proper protection.
- Report any significant reaction before the next dose is due.
Evidence & guidelines
Recommendations on use for travellers to endemic areas are set out in UK Health Security Agency immunisation guidance (the Green Book).
