Diagnosis
Differential:
• Thyroid dysfunction
• Hyperprolactinaemia
• POI
• Pregnancy
Investigations:
• FSH not routinely needed if >45 with typical symptoms
• Check if: <45, atypical symptoms, or to exclude other causes
Perimenopause:
• Irregular periods + vasomotor symptoms in woman >45 years
• Symptoms: hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbance
Menopause:
• 12 months amenorrhoea + symptoms
• Can be clinical diagnosis without FSH
Premature menopause:
• Menopause <40 years - requires FSH + oestradiol
• Refer to specialist
