VTE in Pregnancy

VTE (DVT + PE) is the leading direct cause of maternal death in UK. Risk is 4–5× higher in pregnancy. DVT is more common (left-leg, iliofemoral). PE risk highest in puerperium. Thromboprophylaxis reduces risk — all women should have risk assessment at booking, any admission, and postnatally.
