Pediatric Glasgow Coma Scale (pGCS)
Modified Glasgow Coma Scale for infants and young children (<2 years), with age-appropriate verbal response scoring. Assesses level of consciousness and guides clinical decision-making.
Score interpretation
→ pGCS 13–15: Mild neurological impairment. Monitor closely; reassess frequently; CT head if indicated by mechanism or trend.
→ pGCS 9–12: Moderate neurological impairment. PICU admission; CT head urgently; airway assessment; neurology/neurosurgery consult.
→ pGCS 3–8: Severe neurological impairment. GCS ≤8 = intubation threshold. Immediate airway management, CT head, PICU, neurosurgical consultation.
Interpretation bands for the Paediatric GCS. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
