Paediatric Fluid Resuscitation Calculator
Calculates initial fluid resuscitation bolus and maintenance fluid rate for children based on weight. Uses Holliday-Segar formula for maintenance and weight-based bolus for resuscitation.
Score interpretation
→ Holliday-Segar Maintenance Fluid: Calculated above (mL/day). Bolus dose = Weight(kg) x selected mL/kg. For sepsis: 10 mL/kg IV over 15–30 min, reassess; repeat up to 40–60 mL/kg total in first hour if no cardiac concern. Use 0.9% NaCl or Plasmalyte for resuscitation.
→ Maintenance rate calculated. Bolus = selected mL/kg x weight. Give bolus as rapid IV infusion; reassess after each bolus. Document total fluid balance. Refer to local fluid management pathway.
→ Larger child or adolescent. Maintenance calculated; max maintenance 2000 mL/day (adult capped). Bolus per weight-based dose. Consider PICU for haemodynamic instability requiring repeat boluses.
