Score interpretation
SCORTEN 0–1: ~3.2% predicted mortality
→ Burns/dermatology unit admission; stop offending drug; supportive care
SCORTEN 2: ~12.1% predicted mortality
→ Burns unit or ICU; IVIG or ciclosporin; wound care; eye and mucosal management
SCORTEN 3: ~35.8% predicted mortality
→ ICU admission essential; burns centre transfer; multidisciplinary care
SCORTEN 4: ~58.3% predicted mortality
→ Critical care; consider IVIG; ophthalmology; nutrition support; discuss prognosis with family
SCORTEN ≥5: >90% predicted mortality
→ Maximal supportive care; consider palliative approach; family discussions; ITU with specialist burns centre involvement
