Hearing Loss Grading (WHO Classification)
Grades severity of hearing loss based on average hearing threshold (dB HL) per WHO classification. Guides audiological and surgical referral.
Score interpretation
→ Reassurance; hearing aids if bothered by mild loss; annual review; treat reversible causes (wax, otitis media)
→ Hearing aid fitting; audiological review; ENT assessment; consider middle ear surgery if conductive component
→ Urgent ENT (sudden loss <72h: emergency steroids); cochlear implant assessment for severe-profound; MRI IAM; speech and language therapy
Interpretation bands for the Hearing Loss Grade. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
