Simplified Autoimmune Hepatitis Score
Simplified scoring system for diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Score ≥7 = definite AIH; ≥6 = probable AIH. Easier to apply clinically than the original IAIHG score.
Score interpretation
Score <6 — autoimmune hepatitis unlikely
→ Investigate other causes; repeat serology if clinical suspicion remains
Score 6 — probable autoimmune hepatitis
→ Start immunosuppression (prednisolone ± azathioprine) if LFTs elevated; hepatology review; liver biopsy if not already done
Score ≥7 — definite autoimmune hepatitis
→ Commence immunosuppression; prednisolone 40 mg/day with planned azathioprine; aim for biochemical remission (AST/ALT normal, IgG normal)
Interpretation bands for the Simplified AIH Score. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
