Score interpretation

Normal Cognition

→ AMT-10 8–10: Normal cognitive function. Delirium/dementia less likely. Recheck if clinical suspicion persists; consider formal MMSE/MoCA if screening required.

Possible Cognitive Impairment

→ AMT-10 5–7: Possible cognitive impairment. Consider delirium assessment (4AT); check reversible causes (infection, electrolytes, medications); formal cognitive assessment when patient is well.

Significant Cognitive Impairment

→ AMT-10 ≤4: Significant cognitive impairment. Assess for acute delirium (4AT); investigate and treat underlying cause; safeguarding considerations; inform family; occupational therapy and social work assessment.

Interpretation bands for the AMT-10. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
