Pediatric Appendicitis Risk Calculator (pARC)
Estimates risk of appendicitis in children aged 3–18 presenting with abdominal pain. Aids in disposition and imaging decisions.
Score interpretation
→ pARC High Risk (7–9): High probability of appendicitis. Surgical consultation urgently; consider direct to OR vs CT imaging based on clinical assessment.
→ pARC Intermediate Risk (4–6): CT abdomen/pelvis or ultrasound recommended; surgical consultation; observe and reassess.
→ pARC Low Risk (0–3): Low probability of appendicitis. Consider discharge with precautions; return if worsening; avoid unnecessary CT.
Interpretation bands for the pARC. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
