Score interpretation
Low pre-test probability. PE prevalence ~9%.
→ D-dimer test; if negative (age-adjusted), PE excluded; if positive, CTPA
Intermediate pre-test probability. PE prevalence ~28%.
→ CTPA; or D-dimer if high-sensitivity assay available
High pre-test probability. PE prevalence ~74%.
→ Proceed directly to CTPA; anticoagulate empirically if CTPA unavailable and PE strongly suspected
