AAA Rupture Risk Estimation

Estimates annual rupture risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) based on diameter. Guides surveillance and surgical planning.

Score interpretation

Small AAA — surveillance

→ USS surveillance: 3cm 5-yearly, 4cm 1-yearly; smoking cessation; BP control; statin; no urgent intervention

Medium-large AAA — approaching repair threshold

→ 3-monthly USS; vascular surgery outpatient assessment; EVAR or open repair planning; optimise cardiovascular risk; anaesthetic assessment

Large AAA or symptomatic — urgent/emergency

→ Symptomatic: same-day vascular surgery admission; suspected rupture: emergency resuscitation and immediate transfer to vascular centre; 2 large-bore IV, O-negative blood, CT only if haemodynamically stable

Interpretation bands for the AAA Rupture Risk. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
