Vascular Calculators
18 calculators & risk scores
Browse 18 Vascular clinical calculators and risk scores used in everyday UK practice. Every tool runs entirely in your browser — enter the values and get instant scoring, colour-coded interpretation bands and a link to the underlying guideline or publication. ClinCalc Pro is free, needs no sign-up, and is built for working clinicians.
These vascular tools span VTE Diagnosis, Familial Hypercholesterolaemia, DVT Complications, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Critical Limb Ischaemia, Aortic Aneurysm and more.
- Age-Adjusted D-dimer Threshold for VTEIn patients ≥50 years with low-to-moderate pre-test probability of PE or DVT, D-dimer threshold is increased using the formula: age × 10 µg/L (or × 10 ng/mL). This increases specificity while maintaining sensitivity, reducing unnecessary imaging. Validated by ADJUST-PE and multiple meta-analyses.
- Dutch Lipid Clinic Network Criteria for Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH)Validated scoring system for diagnosing familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) in adults based on family history, personal history, physical examination, LDL-cholesterol levels, and DNA analysis. Score >8 = definite FH. NICE: refer for DNA testing if the score is >5.
- Simon Broome Diagnostic Criteria for Familial HypercholesterolaemiaUK criteria for diagnosing familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). Requires total cholesterol >7.5 mmol/L (or LDL >4.9 mmol/L in adults) PLUS either tendinous xanthomata in patient/relative OR known mutation. Used by NICE CG71 for FH identification.
- Villalta Score for Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS)Clinical scoring tool for diagnosis and severity grading of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) following deep vein thrombosis (DVT). 5 patient symptoms + 6 clinician signs, each scored 0–3. Total 0–33. Score ≥5 = PTS; score ≥15 or presence of ulcer = severe PTS.
- US (MEDPED) Diagnostic Criteria for Familial HypercholesterolaemiaUS diagnostic criteria for FH based on total cholesterol levels adjusted for age and relationship to a known FH proband (Make Early Diagnoses — Prevent Early Deaths programme). Widely used in North America for FH cascade screening.
- Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI)Diagnoses and grades severity of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). ABI = ankle systolic BP / brachial systolic BP. Predicts cardiovascular risk.
- Critical Limb Ischaemia (CLI) AssessmentApplies the Global Vascular Guidelines (2019) definition of chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) and separates acute limb ischaemia (symptoms for 2 weeks or less). Guides urgency of vascular referral.
- AAA Rupture Risk EstimationAbdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture risk rises with diameter and is higher in women and smokers. Surveillance, referral and repair thresholds follow NICE NG156 and the NHS AAA Screening Programme.
- Wound Healing Assessment (PUSH Tool)Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH) assesses wound size, exudate, and tissue type to monitor healing progress. Used for chronic wounds including pressure ulcers and venous leg ulcers.
- Carotid Stenosis Assessment (NASCET/ECST)Classifies carotid artery stenosis severity and guides endarterectomy vs stenting vs medical management based on NASCET criteria.
- Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS)Quantifies severity of chronic venous disease using 10 attributes (revised VCSS, American Venous Forum 2010). Designed to measure change over time and after treatment.
- Vascular Surgery Risk Score (VSG NSQIP)Information page: there is no published lower-limb bypass risk score with these items; points to validated perioperative risk tools for lower extremity bypass surgery.
- Rutherford Classification of Peripheral Arterial DiseaseStandard staging system for chronic lower-extremity ischaemia (Rutherford 1997). Categories 0–6 from asymptomatic to major tissue loss. Used alongside ABPI and Fontaine to guide intervention timing per ESVS 2024 and NICE CG147.
- CEAP Classification — Chronic Venous DiseaseClinical class (C0–C6) of the CEAP system (Eklöf et al. 2004, revised 2020). Aetiology / Anatomy / Pathophysiology assessed separately. Drives compression, ablation, and ulcer-care decisions.
- Fontaine Classification of Peripheral Arterial DiseaseFour-stage European staging of chronic lower-limb ischaemia (Fontaine 1954). Complements Rutherford. Used in ESVS guidance.
- TASC II Classification of Aorto-iliac and Femoropopliteal LesionsTrans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus II anatomic classification of peripheral arterial lesions (Norgren 2007). Guides endovascular vs open surgical revascularisation.
- Hardman Index for Ruptured AAA MortalityFive preoperative variables predicting 30-day mortality after open repair of ruptured AAA (Hardman 1996). Each scored 1.
- Glasgow Aneurysm Score (GAS)Predicts operative mortality in intact and ruptured AAA repair (Samy 1994). GAS = age in years + 17 (shock) + 7 (myocardial disease) + 10 (cerebrovascular disease) + 14 (renal disease).
