Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS)
Quantifies severity of chronic venous disease using 10 attributes. Guides treatment escalation from compression to intervention.
Score interpretation
→ Compression stockings (class 2); leg elevation; regular exercise; weight management; annual review
→ Graduated compression; consider EVLA (endovenous laser ablation) or foam sclerotherapy for symptomatic varicose veins; vascular outpatient referral
→ Urgent vascular surgery; 4-layer compression bandaging for active ulcer; wound clinic; EVLA post-healing; address DVT history; exclude arterial component (ABI before compression)
Interpretation bands for the VCSS. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
