Clinical pearls

  • Short-term (≤4 weeks) severe insomnia

Contraindications

  • Severe respiratory disease
  • Sleep apnoea
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Myasthenia gravis

Side effects

  • Sedation
  • Hangover
  • Dependence with prolonged use
  • Falls in elderly

Interactions

  • CNS depressants
  • CYP3A4 inhibitors
