CART Score for Cardiac Arrest Risk Triage
Cardiac Arrest Risk Triage (CART) score. Predicts in-hospital cardiac arrest within 48 hours in ward patients. Enables early escalation to prevent avoidable arrests.
Score interpretation
→ CART Low Risk (0–3): Low probability of cardiac arrest in next 48 hours. Continue standard ward monitoring; reassess if clinical deterioration.
→ CART Intermediate Risk (4–8): Elevated risk. Increase observation frequency; consider stepdown unit; review medications and fluid balance; early medical review.
→ CART High Risk (≥9): High risk of in-hospital cardiac arrest. Immediate medical/critical care review; consider ITU/HDU transfer; continuous monitoring; address reversible causes (airway, fluid, electrolytes).
Interpretation bands for the CART Score. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
