POS-S — Palliative care Outcome Scale (Symptom list)

The 10-symptom list of the Palliative care Outcome Scale (POS-S — the physical-symptom items of IPOS). Each symptom is rated by how much it has affected the patient, from 0 (not at all) to 4 (overwhelmingly). Total 0–40.

Score interpretation

POS-S Symptom Total (0–40) 0–40

Higher totals mean a greater symptom burden. There are no validated cut-offs for the total; follow it over time for the same patient.

→ Act on every symptom rated 2 (moderately) or more — the level IPOS studies count as a present problem — and reassess after each change.
