Gonadorelin
Brand names: HRF
A synthetic form of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) used diagnostically to assess pituitary gonadotrophin reserve and in the investigation of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal function.
ClinCalc Pro is rebuilding its dose data from primary open sources — the manufacturer SmPC (eMC), the WHO Model Formulary and other official references — under clinician review. This drug's structured dose is not yet published here. Confirm all doses against the product SmPC and your local formulary before prescribing.

How it works
It stimulates GnRH receptors on the anterior pituitary to trigger release of luteinising hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone, allowing assessment of the gonadotrophin response.
Prescribing in practice
- Hypersensitivity reactions can occur, so administer where appropriate monitoring and resuscitation facilities are available.
- Used mainly as a diagnostic test of pituitary function, with sampling of LH and FSH before and after administration.
- Continuous (non-pulsatile) GnRH receptor stimulation ultimately suppresses gonadotrophins, which is relevant when interpreting prolonged exposure.
Monitoring
Measure serum LH and FSH at defined timepoints around administration to interpret the pituitary response.
Counselling the patient
- This is usually a short diagnostic test involving blood samples before and after the injection.
- A brief flushing sensation or injection-site reaction may occur.
- Report any signs of an allergic reaction.
Evidence & guidelines
Gonadorelin is used as an established diagnostic agent for pituitary gonadotrophin reserve in endocrine practice.
