EASI — Eczema Area and Severity Index
Validated severity score for atopic dermatitis (eczema) used to assess treatment response and biologic eligibility.
Score interpretation
EASI 0–1.0: Clear/almost clear eczema
→ Maintenance emollients; proactive topical steroid for known flare areas
EASI 1.1–7.0: Mild atopic dermatitis
→ Regular emollients; topical corticosteroids or calcineurin inhibitors for active areas
EASI 7.1–21.0: Moderate atopic dermatitis
→ Escalate topicals; consider short-course oral steroids; wet wrap therapy; dermatology referral
EASI >21: Severe atopic dermatitis
→ Systemic therapy: dupilumab (if EASI ≥16 + DLQI ≥10), ciclosporin, or methotrexate; urgent dermatology referral
Interpretation bands for the EASI. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
