Finnish Diabetes Risk Score for predicting 10-year risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Score interpretation
Score <7: ~1 in 100 will develop T2DM in 10 years
→ Lifestyle advice; healthy eating; maintain BMI <25; recheck annually
Score 8–11: ~1 in 25 (4%) will develop T2DM
→ Lifestyle modification; weight management; consider fasting glucose
Score 12–14: ~1 in 6 (17%) will develop T2DM
→ Fasting glucose or HbA1c; intensive lifestyle programme; refer if impaired
Score 15–20: ~1 in 3 (33%) will develop T2DM
→ HbA1c and fasting glucose urgently; consider structured prevention programme; cardio-metabolic workup
Score ≥21: ~1 in 2 (50%) will develop T2DM
→ HbA1c, fasting glucose, and OGTT; endocrinology referral; intensive lifestyle intervention
