Caregiver Strain Index (CSI)
Screens for significant caregiver strain in family members of ill or elderly patients. Score >=7 indicates high strain and need for support.
Score interpretation
→ Routine carer support; provide information about local support groups and respite services; reassess at each visit
→ Carer assessment by social services; respite care options; carer support groups; home care package review; GP referral for carer health check
→ Urgent social services carer assessment; immediate respite care; psychological support for carer; reassess care package; consider care home for patient if carer unable to continue safely
