Comprehensive pre-op assessment:
• History + examination.
• Risk stratification: surgical risk (low / intermediate / high) + patient risk (RCRI / Lee Index).
• Functional capacity (METs).
• Comorbidity optimisation.
• Medication review.
• Anaemia screen.
• Diabetes optimisation.
• Anticoagulation management.
• Anaesthetic / surgical consent.
NICE NG45: routine pre-op tests for elective surgery — proportional to surgical + patient risk; avoid blanket testing.
