DELTA-P Score for SVC Syndrome in Tumour

Dutch-English LEMS Tumour Association Prediction (DELTA-P) Score. Predicts prognosis in superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome from lung malignancy and guides treatment decisions.

Score interpretation

Grade 0–2 — Low Severity

→ DELTA-P Low (0–2): Mild SVC syndrome. Can proceed with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy at own pace; may not require emergency stenting. Elevate head of bed; dexamethasone; multidisciplinary oncology review.

Grade 3–5 — Intermediate

→ DELTA-P Intermediate (3–5): Moderate SVC syndrome. Urgent oncology review; consider endovascular stenting within 24–48 hours; dexamethasone 8 mg BD; avoid central venous access in upper limbs.

Grade 6+ — Severe / Life-Threatening

→ DELTA-P Severe (≥6): Severe SVC syndrome with risk of airway compromise. Emergency intervention required — endovascular SVC stenting preferred; may require emergency radiotherapy; ICU; anaesthesia/ENT for airway management; dexamethasone IV.
