Timed Up and Go (TUG) Test
Functional mobility test: time taken to rise from chair, walk 3 metres, return and sit. Predicts fall risk and functional independence.
Score interpretation
TUG ≤10 seconds: Freely mobile, low fall risk
→ No specific intervention; routine follow-up
TUG 11–19 seconds: Borderline, some mobility impairment
→ Physiotherapy assessment; fall prevention programme; gait aids review
TUG ≥20 seconds: Significant impairment; high fall risk
→ Urgent physiotherapy; walking frame / aid; home assessment; medication review; bone protection if osteoporosis risk
Interpretation bands for the TUG. Apply clinical judgement and local guidance.
