Sickle Cell Exchange Transfusion Volume
Calculates the exchange transfusion volume required to achieve a target HbS% in sickle cell disease. Used in acute chest syndrome, stroke, and priapism.
Score interpretation
Relatively small exchange volume required
→ Manual or automated exchange feasible; ensure blood bank availability
Moderate exchange volume required
→ Plan with blood bank; automated erythrocytapheresis preferred
Large exchange volume required
→ Requires automated erythrocytapheresis; plan ICU-level care; coordinate with blood bank immediately
